[With drinks] Fish Cake Soup (eomuk guk) 어묵국

Hello, I'm Tina Shin.

We are making Fish Cake Soup (eomuk guk) 어묵국 which is soup with fish cake.

When we make fish cake soup, we need the fish cake first.

Fish cake is originally made with vegetables(onions, carrots, etc), egg white, seafood (white fish, shrimp), some flour and salt. But these days, there are lots of fish cake made in factories. It has more starch than homemade fish cake does.

Busan is famous for fish cake. My older brother lives there so he bought me some Busan fish cake. So today, I will make the fish cake soup with factory one. Plus, making fish cake at home is a little bothersome....

<Food culture in Korea - Fish Cake Soup (eomuk guk) 어묵국>

1) Lots of street carts have 'Fish Cake Soup (eomuk guk) 어묵국' because it goes well with Stir-fried Rice Cake(Tteok-bokki).
- Before you eat it, you ask 'how much a piece?'. And then 'First eat, Pay later'. You could eat as you want. After finishing it, you tell the owner 'I ate 3 pieces.' and then pay.

2) Lots of pubs also sell it because it goes well with Soju!

3) Korean people think it's soooooo easy to make. So many people living alone cook this at home frequently.

4) Korean people call 'fish cake soup' lots of names.  'eomuk guk', 'eomuk tang', 'oden guk', 'oden tang'. Actually, Oden is Japanese food whose ingredient is Fish Cake Skewers. So Fish Cake with skewers came from Japan. However, 'eomuk guk' (without skewers) is Korean food. Still, many Korean people confused to use 'eomuk or oden'

'Eomuk' is fish cake in Korean. 'Oden' is Japanese food using Fish Cake Skewers.
Also, 'eomuk guk' is the same with 'eomuk tang'. However,  'oden guk' and 'oden tang' are not correct Korean languages.
